The property is currently run as a coach depot. The site extends to approx. 1.273 acres and includes a large workshop of steel frame construction with two front access doors along with a detached brick office building
The yard area is part hard surfaced and part compacted road plainings.
The office building falls within the town’s Conservation Area and so considered a building of merit although is not listed. The rest of the site is outside the Conservation Area.
Part of the site falls within flood zone 2. The site was, historically, part of the town’s gas works and has been subject to some remediation works.
The site was granted planning consent in 2007 for construction of 60 apartments, but the consent wasn’t implemented. In 2011 a similar application was refused at appeal largely because of the proposed demolition of the office building which at that time had been included within the town’s Conservation Area.
The site has potential for redevelopment for a variety of uses.
The site has been submitted into the Council’s “Call For Sites” process forming part of drawing up the new Local Plan.
